1960's Sugar Ray Robinson Training Worn Robe. He's in the top five of any legitimate ranking of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all time, a tireless workhorse who dispatched 173 of the 200 opponents he faced during his professional career, 108 of them by knockout. As that absurd fight figure would suggest, Robinson was the textbook case of the boxer who stuck around too long, victimized by his own monetary irresponsibility, and most of his losses came post-prime.

Leading hobby expert Craig Hamilton dates this white and black satin garment to the 1960's, when Sugar Ray was fighting for checks instead of championships, but any garment connected to this pantheon figure is a true collecting treasure. "Sugar Ray Robinson" is applied in bold tackle twill to verso. Solid, sweaty wear is clearly evident, but we have been unable to match the robe to any fight footage, suggesting that training is the likely derivation. This is just the second Sugar Ray Robinson garment that Heritage has had the privilege to offer. LOA from Craig Hamilton. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
