1948 Rocky Marciano New England Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions Belt. It's the earliest Marciano award known, a seminal artifact that served as an essential stepping stone en route to status as the Heavyweight division's only undefeated champion. While the amateur ranks are typically regarded as a showcase for "the sweet science" rather than the bulldozing destruction that characterized Marciano's professional career, the Brockton Blockbuster did, in fact, leave a trail of crumpled bodies in his wake as he marched toward the championship this belt symbolizes, recording first and third-round knockouts in the Massachusetts/Rhode Island Golden Gloves Tournament in January 1948 before scoring a TKO victory over George McInnis a month later in the New England Tournament of Champions finale.

Marciano had intended to compete for a spot on the 1948 US Olympic Boxing team, but he injured his hand in the McInnis bout, blocking his path to a likely Gold Medal. With nothing more to prove in the amateur world, he'd officially begin his professional career on July 12, 1948, making the fight in which he earned this belt the very last of his amateur career.

This extraordinary relic was originally sold with a letter from Rocky's brother, which has since been lost. But the elite significance is recorded in the design itself, the center buckle stating, "N.E. Golden Gloves Tournament Of Champions Lowell Sun Charities, WGT HVY 1948." The original red, white and blue satin sash is tattered but complete, and the relic is tastefully displayed in a gold-toned and black velvet shadowbox with an engraved plate reading, "Rocky Marciano, N.E. Golden Gloves, Tournament of Champions, 1948, Championship Belt." Dimensions of display are 10.5x20".
