1927 Dempsey vs. Tunney "Long Count Fight" Program. While stubs from this monumental event in sports history are fairly readily available in the hobby (due to attendance of 145,000, a record for a boxing match), the same cannot be said of programs issued for the event. Here we present one of those programs, sold to a fan on hand at Chicago's Soldiers' Field to witness Heavyweight Champ Gene Tunney snatch victory from the jaws of defeat due to Jack Dempsey's costly error. While the innermost page has come loose from the bottom staple, it still remains affixed by the top, leaving the program complete and technically solid. A single vertical fold bisects the program, though this is not particularly distracting to the eye, nor are two staple holes and a small brown stain on the cover. Two interior pages are dog-eared; the rest are otherwise clean. A fantastic relic from the Golden Age of Sport.
