    Description

Very Rare 1950's R437 Comics Novelty & Candy Co. James J. Corbett. James Corbett was a legendary boxer from the late 19th century who earned the heavyweight title in 1892 by defeating the great John L. Sullivan. In the early 1920's, Ham Fisher developed "Joe Palooka" who was a good-hearted boxer who didn't appreciate his livelihood. Comics Novelty & Candy Co. combined the two for a special promotion the early 1950's featuring 12 known boxers on the back panel of the firms' product boxes. This rare example does have light creases and a review of the blank reverse shows an area of surface loss, still the card presents at the EX to EX/MT level.
