Description

Period-Signed 1951 Topps Ringside Jake LaMotta #3 PSA VG-EX 4, PSA/DNA Auto 10 - From The Golden Age Collection. Middleweight boxer Jake LaMotta, the subject of the 1980 Hollywood blockbuster Raging Bull," was a hard-charging brawler who developed a reputation for bullying his opponents in a style more commonly referred to today as a swarmer and a slugger. Due to this difficult style, LaMotta often took as much of a beating as some of the opponents he was hitting. His exciting and punishing bouts against rival Middleweight Sugar Ray Robinson (six fights in all) were the stuff of legend. LaMotta did eventually win the Middleweight title with a win versus Frenchman Marcel Cerdan on June 16, 1949. Though a rematch was arranged, it never took place as Cerdan was killed while flying back to the United States for the rematch when the Air France Constellation aircraft he was traveling on crashed. All 48 people on board perished. LaMotta continued boxing and finished his professional career with an overall record of 83-30 with four draws. Offered is a 1951 Topps Ringside card that features LaMotta and is further enhanced by his prized autograph on the front. He signed it nicely in blue ink right across his bare chest. Graded PSA VG-EX 4 with a certified PSA/DNA Auto 10.
