Description
Extremely Rare 1890's N310 Mayo Boxers Uncut Six-Card Panels. Before trading card are processed down to circulation size and inserted into packs, boxes, etc. for distribution they are part of a much larger multi-card entity called a production sheet. Uncirculated uncut cards from the 1950's are scarce. Intact sheets from the 1930's are rare and find their way into the most advanced collections. Uncut sheets from the 19th Century are very rare with no known full sheets known. Offered is a pair of 6-card uncut strips from the N310 Mayo Boxers series from 1895. The strips have had the Mayo Cut Plug Advertising cut off which would have appeared along the bottom of each card. Each measures approx. 9-3/4x2-1/2" and they have survived very nicely with only creasing seen along the far left edge affecting one card - Griffen. The surfaces are clean, each is identified along the bottom of the dual-color portraits, backs are blank. Boxers include: Strip #1 - Myers, B. Smith, Edwards, Griffo, Chonskia and Maher. Strip #2 - Griffen, Dime, Carney, Kilrain, Fitzsimmons and Heest. These and the two panel available elsewhere in this auction are from the same find. Just one other 3-card uncut panel is known. The answer as to when another opportunity to acquire uncut material of any theme from the 19th Century again is pure speculation. Unique relics of this nature are sure to be deeply tucked away not to be seen again anytime soon.Auction Info
