    Description

Early 1910 James Jeffries Police Gazette Premium. The National Police Gazette debuted in 1845 and is simply called "Police Gazette." This tabloid was a combination of "National Inquirer," Sports Illustrated and the TV show "Cops." Content covered events that would be of importance to the police like violent crimes, western outlaws and sports. Extremely well designed, it became popular for the quality engravings that featured athletes, burlesque dancers, strippers and even prostitutes. It certainly was the "men's magazine" of its era. It's glory years was the late 19th century and early 20th century but the last issue hit newsstands in 1977. Boxing was a huge contribution to content with full-page supplements and articles. Offered is one of the most desirable of the hundreds of the premiums they issued - James "Jim" Jeffries. Issued before his famous fight with Johnson, the caption reads, "Latest Portrait of the man who will meet Jack Johnson for the title on July 4, 1910." Great shape for these fragile collectibles. Just some slight wrinkling and one small fissure into the top edge.
