1932 U.S. Caramel Jack Sharkey #25 SGC 88 NM/MT 8. "Sailor" Tom Sharkey was a tough, durable fighter during the era that proceeded John L. Sullivan's reign. His short stocky build enabled him to deliver a powerful punch and also give him the ability to absorb punishment. Sharkey quickly moved up the ranks of the heavyweight division with a string of knockout victories. His two epic ring wars with James J. Jeffries are legendary. Both fights went the distance, twenty and twenty-five rounds respectably, with Jeffries winning two close decisions. These two ring battles were so prominent that twenty years after their last fight the two old warriors would tour together on the vaudeville circuit. Offered is card #25 from the 1932 U.S. Caramel issue featuring Sharkey, one of three pugilists honored in the series. Graded SGC 88 NM/MT, this card is a fantastic, precisely centered example with four sharp corners surrounding a vivid portrait.
