1890's John L. Sullivan "Champion of the World" Cabinet SGC 80 EX/NM 6. Enduring portrait image of the Boston Strongman, whose calm demeanor here belies his station as the undisputed king of bare-knuckle boxing. For ten years in the late 19th century, John L. Sullivan dominated any man who dared stand before him, leaving a bloody mark on sports history in an era far more forgiving of such brutality. The 3-1/2" x 5-3/8" deep sepia image is adhered to a 4-3/16 x 6-3/8" mounting of deep merlot with a rich "JOHN L. SULLIVAN, Champion of the World" in metallic gold. The photo is problem-free with a slight surface scuff in the lower left corner area. The thick card mount shows very little surface, edge or corner wear. Graded SGC 80 EX/NM 6.
