    Description

1886 N167 Old Judge Jim Carney SGC 50 VG/EX 4. Graded VG/EX 4 by SGC, the only example at this grade with one example graded higher. From the rarest of 19th Century tobacco sports related issues. Vertical reverse format. Jim Carney was an English rookie when he first fought in 1878 who would go on to become the English Lightweight Champion in 1884. That 40+ round battle lasted almost 2 hours. This extreme rarity does have small, light corner crease and some light to moderate corner wear. Bright borders and bold inks jump off the problem free front and back surfaces. The blue ink reverse proudly advertises "Old Judge Cigarettes" for the Goodwin & Co. of New York. A rare chance to acquire a prized pugilist collectible. The other two known pugilists are also offered as separate lots in this auction. This is a unique opportunity to acquire in one auction a complete trio of N167 boxers probably never to be equaled.
