    Description

1880s John L. Sullivan Cabinet Card. Enduring portrait image of the Boston Strongboy, whose calm demeanor here belies his station as king of bare-knuckle boxing. For ten years in the late 19th century, John L. Sullivan dominated any man who dared stand before him, leaving a bloody mark on sports history in an era far more forgiving of such brutality. Sepia image is mounted to a board that extends the dimensions to 4x6.5". Typical edge and corner wear are apparent and the photo exhibits evidence of a meeting with moisture, which has caused it to curl slightly.
