    Description

19th/20th Century John L. Sullivan Photo Trio (3). John L. Sullivan is considered by most to be the greatest boxer of his time. The holder of various championship titles, Sullivan was both a gloved heavyweight champion from 1882-1892 and the last bare-knuckle champion under London Prize Ring rules. Winning over 450 fights in his career, Sullivan would do exhibitions where he offered any US citizens as much as $500 for the chance to fight him. I would imagine all were a little richer but a lot more sorry. Offered is a trio of 100+ year-old collectibles. Includes: 1) Glossy photo of Sullivan in formal attire. Back notes "John L. Sullivan lecturing "The Curse of Liquor" "The Great Temperance Lecture". Cropped photo measures 3.75x5.625"; 2) Sepia photo, 4.5x6.625" Back notation, "John L. Sullivan Lecturing in Vaudeville "The Curse of Drink" plus more; 3) John L. Sullivan "Champion of all Champions" 4.75x7" B&W blank back promotional photo in formal attire. Pencil and piece missing in upper-right.
