    Description

1936 Mitchell's #27 James Braddock SGC 92 NM/MT+ 8.5. Extremely nice high grade (SGC 92 NM/MT+ 8.5) copy of card #25 James Braddock from the "A Gallery of 1935" series issued by Mitchell's Cigarettes. The set was a showcase for events from the year 1935. Braddock, the inspiration for the movie "Cinderella Man," earned a spot in the set for his shocking victory in becoming the World's Heavyweight Boxing Championship on June 13, 1935 by beating Max Baer. Braddock was picked for the fight because he was supposed to be an easy target for Baer and was a 10-to-1 underdog.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
