Signed 1984-85 Star Co. Michael Jordan Rookie #101 BGS NM-MT+ 8.5 Auto 10. The 1986 Fleer Jordan that serves as the most recognizable cardboard of the past half century is widely and properly filed under the header of "rookie," but the offered relic predates that hobby essential, tracking back to the first days of His Airness on an NBA court. There are no professional statistics to be found on the back of this coveted rarity--only Tarheels tallies--and nothing but immortality ahead.

And this isn't just the older sibling of the Jordan rookie family, but a far rarer one to boot. These cards were originally distributed in sealed team bags with the Jordan on top, in a production run believed to have numbered below 5,000. But even within that tiny population, this glorious specimen distinguishes itself with the addition of an utterly flawless blue ink signature from the ultimate hardcourt hero. That signature was acquired in 2014 at one of Jordan's "Flight School" youth training camp appearances, as the text of the Beckett header confirms.

While Jordan has never been known as a generous signer, knowledgeable collectors will tell you that he's tightened the reins significantly over the past six or seven years, and rumors abound that he will unfailingly refuse to autograph trading cards, presumably a condition of his contract with Upper Deck. Long story short, the population of signed rookies isn't likely to grow, while the price almost certainly will. We've all seen modern autograph cards rocketing into the pricing stratosphere in recent months, and plenty that have surged to seven-figure heights could properly be considered more common than this special rarity. It seems absurd to suggest that Jordan could ever be underappreciated, but we'd be inclined to use that adjective in this case.

    Graded BGS NM-MT+ 8.5 with subgrades: Centering 8, Edges 9.5, Corners 8.5, Surface 9.5. Beckett 10 Autograph. UAS #09650.
