A Late Addition to the Auction!

2016 Kobe Bryant Los Angeles Lakers Final 'Body Armor' Game Towel Worn During Farewell Speech. Somehow the greatest of the greats are able to author the perfect farewell. Ted Williams went yard in his final at-bat. Derek Jeter slapped a walk-off single. And Kobe Bryant supplied what was unquestionably the most thrilling performance of the Los Angeles Lakers' 2015-16 season on April 13, 2016, draining sixty points to power a stunning come-from-behind victory against the Utah Jazz in a game that was both technically meaningless and yet one of the most unforgettable in franchise history.

For twenty years, Kobe Bryant had served as the face of the Lakers franchise, delivering five NBA Championships to a star-studded fanbase who packed the Staples Center to the rafters for the final game of the NBA season to pay their respects to their departing hero. Nobody could have possibly imagined that the aging legend had one last signature performance within his weary frame. As the Lakers took the lead and Kobe sank his sixtieth point, the atmosphere was akin to that of a clinched World Championship.

After the buzzer sounded, Bryant made the rounds, hugging his teammates past and present before taking the microphone at center court to deliver a gracious and engaging farewell speech. Throughout the entirety of the post-game festivities, a towel bearing the logo of "Body Armor" sports drink, a product Bryant endorses, lay across his shoulders.

After signing off with a "Mamba out!" Bryant walked off the court for his final time, slapping five with legions of fans pressed against the railings. As Bryant passed our consignor, a lifelong Lakers fan, he reached out and snatched the towel from around Bryant's shoulders, a grab captured on video and digital imagery.

The towel measures 24x41" in size and exhibits light staining from its brush with greatness, perfectly matching all footage of the day. Included with the towel are our consignors two tickets to the game, section 117, Row D, seats 6 & 7, perfectly positioned on the rail of the tunnel for an encounter with Kobe. Lakers fans set a world-record by purchasing over $1.2 million in Kobe merchandise at the Staples Center during his farewell game. With his uniform and sneakers from the game unlikely to make it to market, this towel represents the most significant piece of Kobe memorabilia made available from his historic farewell night. A letter of provenance from the consignor will accompany the lot.
