Description
1997 Metal Universe Michael Jordan (Precious Metal Gems) #23 BGS NM-MT 8 - #'d 52/100. Michael Jordan cards are not just sailing along right now - they're riding a surging tidal wave. A "perfect storm" of events this spring rocketed their value far over what it had been. Just when many Americans were quarantining because of COVID-19 and sports were almost non-existent, ESPN and Netflix presented the 10-part documentary The Last Dance. The public - including many whose childhood hero was Jordan and who could now afford his highest graded cards - watched in record numbers, seeing Jordan driving the Chicago Bulls to win three consecutive championships two times within eight years. That documentary started a run on the already surging Jordan cards that has still not let up. For example, in just the month prior to Dec. 18, 2020, according to Vintage Price Guide, the value of a 1997 Metal Universe Michael Jordan #23f PSA 9 card rose 281%. Examples abound. A 1987 Fleer Michael Jordan #59 PSA 10 rose 176% in that same month's time. A PSA 10 1986-87 Fleer Jordan rookie card available for just over $20,000 two years ago recently sold on Dec.12, 2020 for $211,000. Evidence enough.
There is only one Michael Jordan, and there are only 100 of these 1997 Metal Universe Michael Jordan (Precious Metal Gems) cards in existence. The first ten numbers are Green Foil, and the remaining numbers Red Foil. There's an international market for Michael Jordan cards that's on fire, and an investment in THE GOAT should have a future that just keeps on blazing.
Graded BGS NM-MT 8 with subgrades: Centering 9, Corners 8, Edges 7, Surface 9.
Guide Value or Estimate: $150,000 - up.
