Worn on Christmas Day of Bulls' sixth and final NBA Championship season to date!

1997-98 Dennis Rodman Game Worn Chicago Bulls Jersey with Unique Provenance.

    It never hurts to ask.

We've all heard the saying before, generally when working up the courage to ask for a date, or a raise, or any number of situations in which the result is likely to be failure. But one enterprising young fan proved the wisdom of that ancient aphorism, setting off for a Christmas Day 1997 game at United Center to watch her Chicago Bulls face the visiting Miami Heat. As she made her way with two companions to her prime seats just twelve rows from the court, she carried a handmade sign beneath one arm, a charming and rather physically flattering drawing of a shirtless, green-haired Dennis Rodman holding his own jersey in his right hand. Bold text applied beside Rodman's muscular frame read, simply, "All I want for Christmas is..." An arrow pointed to the jersey.

As the Bulls stormed to a 90-80 victory over a powerful Miami club featuring its own pair of superstar players-Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway-it was Dennis Rodman who led the Bulls in minutes played, providing ample time for his eyes to wander to the bold request. Rodman would finish the game with eight points, an assist, and a team-topping thirteen rebounds, the stat for which he is most famous. Michael Jordan would, predictably, lead both teams with twenty-four points.

Moments after the clock struck triple-zero, Rodman signaled to the young woman that he did indeed intend to play the role of Santa Claus for her, and they met at courtside for the exchange. As a virus-weary nation seeks solace in the marvelous distraction of "The Last Dance" documentary about that unforgettable era on the Windy City hardcourt, Heritage is proud and privileged to present this jersey worn to distinction by the 2011 inductee to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The home white mesh gamer exhibits solid game wear, with "Bulls 91" applied in red and black tackle twill to the chest, and "Rodman" in a classic low-drop above the same digits on verso. Lower left front tail provides the proper "Nike [size] 50" labeling with "NBA" and "Chicago Bulls" secondary tagging at each side, and a "Length +4" tailoring flap tag below.

While the original handmade sign has sadly fallen victim to spring cleaning over the years, our consignor still has a digital photo of her work, available for downloading by the winning bidder. Also joining the jersey is our consignor's game ticket and her letter of provenance.

It's a wonderful, heartwarming story at a time we need one the most, and arguably the finest Rodman jersey in private hands. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Letter of provenance from consignor. Game ticket.
