1986 Fleer Michael Jordan #57 SGC Mint 9. "I've failed over and over in my life, and that is why I succeed," said Michael Jordan about his success. And what a success it's been, from the man regarded by many as the greatest player in the history of basketball. Individually, the Hall of Famer holds the highest lifetime scoring average in the history of the NBA at 30.12 points per game. The 14-time all-star won an all-time record 10 scoring championships and was an All-Defensive team player nine times. "Air Jordan" won the NBA MVP five times and won an all-time record six Play-Off Finals MVP awards. But, as shown in the 2020 Jordan documentary film, The Last Dance, Jordan's goals involved winning far more than individual statistics, and his incredible individual drive to win also included his driving teammates to win. In the 1986-87 season when this Fleer card was issued, Jordan scored his highest career season scoring average at 37.1 to lead the league, but his Chicago Bulls team were eliminated from the play-offs in three games.

Jordan was drawing closer to one of the most miraculous successes in team sports, the Chicago Bulls' double three-peat. "Our job is to go out there and win - at any cost," is how he defined the Bulls' task. And then it all kicked in, and the Bulls won the NBA championship three years in a row, from 1990-91 through 1992-93. Jordan took off a season to play minor league baseball in 1993-94, returned to the Bulls at the tail end of the 1994-95 season, and then engineered another three-peat as the Bulls won the NBA title in 1995-96 through 1997-98. A hobbyist's winning opportunity for the mint card of the NBA's biggest winner. The card front features Jordan floating high in the air, trademark tongue extended - classic Jordan. Graded SGC MINT 9.
