Virtually Untouched & An Extra Jordan Rookie!

1986 Fleer Basketball Wax Box With 36 Unopened Packs. While the 1980's saw a welcome surge in interest in the sports card collecting, this trend resulted in a veritable tsunami of cardboard from the old guard and newcomers alike, creating a supply that drowned even that augmented demand. Today you'll find sets of Donruss, Topps and Upper Deck still in the shrink wrap, and selling for less than the thirty year old price tag affixed. But there was one noteworthy exception for basketball fans - the 1986 Fleer edition of 132 cards and 11 stickers. Almost three decades later it is an issue that stands proudly as the most coveted basketball set of the modern era. Not since the fabled "Tall Boys" of the 1969-70 Topps issue has a basketball issue boasted such a remarkable assembly of rookie talent, highlighted, of course, by the number fifty-seven card (and number eight sticker) dedicated to the iconic Michael Jordan. A short list of esteemed stars and HoFers who appear in this set (many their rookie debut) include Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, Joe Dumars, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Manute Bol, Wayman Tisdale, Chris Mullin, Hakeem Olajuwon, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins, James Worthy, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Julius Erving, Larry Bird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Offered is an original from Fleer retail box with 36 fresh unopened wax packs that based on the letter from Steve Hart, have called this box home since 1986. The outer box is one of the nicest we have seen. The inner packs are just as nice as they were in 1986. It is obvious this box has seen very little handling over the last 30+ years. With each passing year it is more and more obvious the current supply of unopened material will not meet collector demand. This offering stands above the rest. See our web site for the Steve Hart LOA #XO138.

    More Information:

The content of the letter from Steve Hart of the Baseball Card Exchange:

    To Whom It May Concern,

This letter is being written for the 1986/87 Fleer basketball wax box that is labeled #XO138.

It is in my best opinion that this wax box is in its original form as issued by Fleer. All the packs have the same consistent centering of the wrappers. The wrapper colors (most noticeably the blues and reds) are of very similiar tone.

In addition, the collation of stickers is proper for a Fleer issued box. There are 3 stickers showing of each player and a 4th sticker showing for 3 additional players. The additional players with a 4th sticker are: Jordan, Olajuwon and Thomas.

There is also a #57 Michael Jordan RC showing on top of one of the packs. It is in the upper left row, 6th pack down.

    Sincerely Yours,
    Steve Hart
