A flawlessly documented gamer from The Doctor!

1985 Julius Erving Game Worn & Signed Philadelphia 76ers Jersey with Team Provenance. In much the same way that Babe Ruth revolutionized the sport of baseball with his power, Dr. J can be credited with forever changing the way basketball is played, taking the action above the rim and bringing the slam dunk into the American lexicon. His flashy play and towering afro drew legions of fans and helped to establish the ABA as a legitimate threat to the entrenched National Basketball Association. Arguably no single player is more responsible for the resulting merger.

Presented is a jersey worn by the veteran superstar for eight games between 2/1/85 and 2/24/85, including 2/1 vs. Chicago (nineteen points), 2/4 vs. Atlanta (twenty-three points), 2/6 vs. Washington (twenty-one points), 2/13 vs. New York (seventeen points, ten rebounds), 2/15 vs. Cleveland (fourteen points), 2/20 vs. Golden State (twenty-five points, nine rebounds), 2/22 vs. Detroit (nineteen points, ten rebounds), and 2/24 vs. Utah (thirty-one points).

The white mesh homester features a blue and red tackle twill "Sixers" across the chest and "Erving" in blue on reverse, each affixed above the fabled (and retired) number "6." Tagging at lower left front tail includes a "Wilson [size] 40" tag with an extra length flap designator below which has since faded from perspiration and repeated washings. Autographed "Julius 'Dr. J.' Erving" on the verso in 9/10 black fiber-tip pen.

Fantastic 1985 letter of provenance from the 76ers director of advertising states: "Please find enclosed Dr. J's home jersey that he wore in games 2/1/85 through 2/24/85."

Rarely does a garment from a Top Fifty player emerge on the hobby's auction block with both game wear and team provenance, elevating this offering to the upper reaches of the subgenre's hierarchy. It's a piece equally worthy of a place of honor in the finest of private collections and the hallowed halls of Springfield. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Letter of provenance from the 76ers. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
