1961 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain #8 PSA NM 7. "Nobody loves Goliath," said Wilt Chamberlain about one of his nicknames, and it's true that at 7'1" and 250-300 pounds, Hall of Famer Chamberlain was almost always the largest man on the floor - but what's also true is that Wilt was an exceptional athlete. Presented is Wilt's rookie card. He started his professional career with the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959-60, and the center was the Rookie of the Year, averaging 37.6 PPG. The next season he upped his average to 38.4. Then speculation abounded that he could be the first NBA player to average 40 PPG in 1961-62. Didn't happen. Wilt just flew past 40 and averaged an astounding 50.4 PPG. No other NBA player has ever averaged even 40 PPG. Chamberlain liked to do things in a big way, and on March 2nd that year he scored an all-time pro record 100 points in a game against the New York Knicks at Hershey, Pa, an occasional Warriors' home venue. Wilt won two championships - with the 1967 Philadelphia 76ers and the 1972 Los Angeles Lakers. He was a 4-time MVP, a 13-time All Star, a 7-time scoring champion and, just because he could, in 1967-68 he had the most assists in the league.

The 1961 Fleer issue was the first nationally distributed hoop set in four years, and so it features many rookie cards, including other HOF players such as: Robertson, West, and Len Wilkins. The 66 cards were portioned with the first 44 being standard cards, and the last 22 being second action shots of the NBA's popular players. Note the cartoon logos o the top of the cards. Fronts include a B&W photo with a colorful background. Graded PSA NM 7.
