    Description

1957 Topps Bill Russell #77 PSA NM-MT 8. William Felton Russell was the second overall pick in the 1956 draft. Certainly the Boston Celtics had high hopes for him but even the most passionate Boston fan would have guessed the 6 ft. 9 in., West Monroe, LA born center would go on to lead the franchise to eleven NBA Championships during his thirteen year career. On paper, he was a great center, averaging just over fifteen points per game and over twenty-two rebounds per game earning himself twelve All-Star selections. It could be argued that there were several other centers in NBA history who were better statistically or who added more scoring to the mix. What cannot be argued with is the fact that Russell is the winningest player in the history of the game. Just imagine, the man has more championship rings than he has fingers. Most simply forget before he was a pro he led the University of San Francisco to two consecutive NCAA championships in 1955 and 1956 and was the captain of the U.S. national basketball team who took the gold in the 1956 Olympics. Pairing up with other greats like Bob Cousy and later on with John Havlicek, Russell was the heart and soul of the team, leading the charge into each amazing season. Playing at a position that often sees injuries and bad knees, Russell was amazingly consistent and healthy.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. The card displays beautifully with deep, saturated colors and fresh gloss. The four corners are all mint quality or very close to being mint. All help contain a clean and problem-free border. The lone element accounting for the grade is a slight shift in centering. Of the well over 600 examples submitted to PSA, there are forty-six in NM-MT with a handful rating higher. This is a must-have card for the basketball specialist.
