1957 Topps Basketball High-End Complete Set (80). With baseball, football and hockey already under the Topps umbrella it was only inevitable that basketball, still a growing sport in 1957 be the fourth leg of the trading card table. The timing was perfect to capture the debut of a 6"10" center for the Boston Celtics named Bill Russell but not for the cards as Topps dropped the sport until 1969 and an attempt by Fleer in 1961 did little to enhance public appeal. Remarkable how times have changed. Offered is a 1957 Topps Basketball 80-card complete set of this landmark issue. A total of 17 cards have been graded by PSA. Includes: PSA NM-MT 8: 1 card, #68; PSA NM+ 7.5: 1 card, #44 Gola; PSA NM 7: 8 cards, #'s 1 Clifton, 7, 12, 15 Ramsey, 18, 21, 43 Hundley, 55; PSA EX-MT 6: 6 cards, #'s 5 Sharman, 10 Arizin, 17 Cousy, 40 Risen, 42 Stokes, 71 Twyman; PSA EX+ 5.5: 1 card, #77 Russell. Ungraded - #'s 13 Schayes (EX), 19 Heinsohn (EX), 24 Pettit (VG/EX), 28 Mikkelsen (VG/EX), 37 Hagan (EX), 78 Lovellette (VG/EX), 80 Schnittker (EX). Grades 12% NM, 73% EX to EX/MT, 15% VG to VG/EX. SMR approaches $9,000.00

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
