Includes a letter of provenance from Cousy's wife

1956-59 Bob Cousy Game Worn Boston Celtics Jersey, MEARS A9. The seven and a half-inch rear numerals on this battle-scarred white knit treasure assigns the most delectable vintage possible, a period in Celtics lore remembered as "The Bill Russell Era" when Boston Garden hosted the greatest Championship run in NBA history. While his eleven rings establish Russell as the most decorated player in the history of the league, the contributions of the Hall of Fame veteran who sported the presented gamer cannot be minimized, the superstar point guard averaging nearly twenty points per game over the range of this jersey's possible term of service.

Dozens of team repairs spangle the white nylon body, indicative of hundreds of hours of practice wear subsequent to the regular season. An unrepaired tear splits the center of the "Celtics" tackle twill identifier on chest and accounts for the sole deduction on the MEARS worksheet. Number "14" is similarly applied to front and verso. Center interior tail holds proper "Horace Partridge Sporting Goods [size] 42" label.

The Celtics recognized Cousy's thirteen seasons of brilliant service with the retirement of his number "14," which was hung from the Boston Garden rafters the same year a bronze plaque was unveiled in Springfield. Membership in the NBA's 50 Greatest Players brotherhood was a 1996 addition to a staggering resume of achievement. Certainly this ranks among the most significant basketball jersey offerings of recent years, a fine memento of an era of dominance we could never see again on a professional court. LOA from MEARS, A9. Letter of provenance from Marie Cousy. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
