1948 Bowman Basketball Printers Production Near Sheet (28 Cards) With Mikan. It was the dawn of the modern era of the hobby and leading the charge was Bowman Gum. While famous for their baseball issue they also produced a ground-breaking set of football & basketball cards as well as non-sports issues. Offered is a fantastic conversation piece. The approx 14-5/8" x 10" panel features twenty-eight basketball cards, all grey backgrounds which are actually just cards missing the red or blue ink, to card #'s 36 - 44, 47-53, 56-62 and 65-71 including card #69 featuring hoops legend George Mikan! The back shows the 2-color standard backs for the basketball cards and when turned around one finds obverses from Bowman's '48 "Movie Stars" set including Yvonne DeCarlo, Cesar Romero and Shelly Winters. An amazing conversation piece and a great addition to the basketball fan of follower of the printing process of the cards we so admire. Custom framed with entire panel visible. The four cards of each row are affected by creasing, the top right card has a chipped corner. Otherwise cars are unaffected by time including Mikan.Auction Info
