Late 1960's Dallas Chaparrals Game Worn Warm Up Jacket. Everything about the ABA had a sense of flair attached to it. Whether it was the unmistakable Afros, signature slam dunks or nightly fights, the renegade league gave its big brother a serious level of competition. When the little league that could ran out of steam, many of the squads were dissolved into the NBA. The Dallas Chaparrals annually competed for league supremacy. Following their final year in the ABA, the team was absorbed into the NBA and became the San Antonio Spurs. Worn during the late 1960's is this gorgeous Durene shooting jacket. While not identified to a single player, it must have served a season's worth of use given the wear. Staining marks are visible near the buttons on front. Situated over the heart is a Chaparrals team emblem with the bird executed in chenille threads which adds a dose of aesthetics. Red and blue ribbed material accentuates the sleeve ends and tail. A lone "[size] 44" tag is applied in the collar. "Chaparrals" is arched across the reverse in two-inch two-tone tackle twill. Slight staining on reverse. Styles and teams will come and go as basketball teams continue to adopt new color schemes and team insignias. But that Chaparral racing with a roundball is an enduring image of the great ABA and all it had to offer the sporting world. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
