Description
Circa 1976 Jo Jo White Game Worn Boston Celtics Uniform. A spectacular collegiate career at Kansas, followed by a Gold Medal performance in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games, earned White a first-round selection in the 1969 NBA draft despite his two-year military commitment. An elite athlete who had also been drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Reds, White was just what the Celtics needed after losing legendary center Bill Russell and veteran shooting guard Sam Jones to retirement. Coach Red Auerbach was able to secure a reduction in White's required military service and the superstar point guard began eleven seasons of service to the Celtics cause that year, joining veteran John Havlicek to form the cornerstone of two NBA Championship teams (1973-74 and 1975-76).This "Sand Knit size 42" jersey and matching shorts are linked to the latter stages of White's stay in Boston. The labels on the cheesecloth garment were used from approximately 1976 until the end of White's Celtics tenure. Each of the identifiers is crafted in single-color white tackle twill and shows good use. The edges have frayed from launderings. Slight puckering is visible on the reverse "0". White/green/white trim encircles the neck and shoulder inserts. Dual Sand Knit labels are applied in the tail - exclusivity (sewn) and size (glue affixed). White's blue felt tip signature is barely visible on the front "0" numeral. The matching "Medalist Sand Knit size 36" shorts complete the ensemble. Sand Knit exclusivity, size and "10" (player number) labels are sewn inside. White signed the waistline and included a "1996" inscription. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
