Exceedingly rare uniform article from Mr. Basketball

Circa 1954 George Mikan Game Worn Western Conference All-Star Shorts. He redefined the sport as a game of "big men," dominating the competition with his abundant rebounding, shot blocking, and a deadly ambidextrous hook shot years before Kareem claimed the move as his own. At six-feet ten inches tall and 245 pounds, and always clad in his thick, round spectacles, the Hall of Fame center remains the most recognizable figure of the early National Basketball Association. He was honored as one of seven members of the inaugural class of the Naismith Hall of Fame, and appears among the even more discriminating brotherhood of the NBA Fifty Greatest Players.

But despite Mikan's peerless status as a pioneer of the early professional game, only a single uniform article from his eleven NBA seasons has ever reached the hobby's major auction block. Here we present the second, a marvelous pair of shorts worn in either the 1954 or 1956 NBA All-Star Game, gifted personally to one of the most famous members of the sports collectibles hobby. The dominant blue coloring of this patriotically toned garment to the even-numbered years of his four NBA All-Star Game appearances, and it survives in marvelous condition with a 9/10 silver sharpie signature on front. Interior collar holds proper "Horace Partridge Athletic Goods [size] 38" label (far too large for just about anybody but the giant center) and a handwritten notation, presumably in the hand of the aforementioned famous collector, that reads, "99, George Mikan, All Star Shorts." Wear is appropriate for a single game's action. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
