    Description

1996-97 Michael Jordan Game Worn & Signed Chicago Bulls Uniform with Bulls Team Letter. The overwhelming majority of Michael Jordan game-worn jerseys have no lineage or trail to the collecting hobby--many were traded by equipment managers or simply settled into collections without any type of verifiable provenance. Heritage Auctions is proud to present the only known jersey of basketball's signature star sold by the Chicago Bulls during the 1996-97 season. This offering was originally purchased at a CharitaBulls function March 19, 1997 for $40,000. The original Bulls letter, which also served as authentication for Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman jerseys, will attend. Also included is a banquet program from the night's festivities.

Great use is shown throughout the white mesh jersey. An NBA gold silhouette resides on the shoulder stirrup, which the NBA only incorporated for the 1996-97 season, to mark the league's Golden Anniversary. Minor edge fraying is present on the two-tone tackle twill identifiers, and the reverse "3" shows hints of puckering from launderings administered and superstar wear. The drop is nearly 4.75" from the lowermost red neck stripe. One of the only ways to determine a retail from actual jersey which could have been worn by Jordan is the drop, and this one perfectly matches what his Airness wore. Two labels appear in the tail: Bulls exclusivity ("Body Length +3") and Champion size. The size label has "1" markered on the lower left corner, undoubtedly from a Bulls staffer. Jordan expertly signed the back in 10/10 black felt tip. A full PSA/DNA letter and UDA hologram/certificate authenticate the penning.

Not to be forgotten are the shorts Jordan sported during the team's championship campaign. Applied inside is a Bulls exclusivity label and "Champion [size] 38" tag. "23" is written in black marker for identification purposes. Great wear is featured on the shorts. A gold NBA silhouette resides on the lower right side.

While the words "finest" are thrown around in the collectible industry with too much regularity, this is one time we have no problem using such vocabulary. There have been many Jordan gamers to enter into the hobby, but never before have we offered one with such concrete provenance. To our knowledge, the Bulls didn't offer another uniform from that memorable season at any other point. Letter of provenance from the Chicago Bulls. LOA from UDA (autograph). Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph). Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
