Description
1992 Michael Jordan "Dream Team" Barcelona Olympics Game Worn & Signed Sneakers, MEARS Authentic. It was the cover of the February 18, 1991 Sports Illustrated that affixed the label to a basketball team that stands in hardcourt history as the greatest ever assembled. For the first time in history, the restriction against professional participation in Olympic competition was lifted, a rule change that propelled the name "The Dream Team" into our global sports lexicon. Only the purest form of serendipity could account for the overturning of the amateurs-only Olympic rule at this precise moment in NBA history, the peak of a talent swell that brought together a staggering assembly of fresh-faced rookies and aging veterans from the upper reaches of the game's pantheon.Of the dozen men who steamrolled international competition by an average of 43.8 points en route to Olympic Gold in Barcelona, only Christian Laettner lacks Springfield enshrinement, and is joined by Chris Mullin as the only men absent from the 1999 list of the Fifty Greatest Players in NBA History. But on that esteemed roster of legends--Bird, Magic, Barkley, Malone, Ewing--it is Jordan that stands alone as the greatest name in the sport.
Here we present a pair of Air Jordan VII's worn as the sport's greatest player anchored the sport's greatest team. The size thirteen gamers bear the unfamiliar number "9" on each heel, matching the digit he wore to capture the Gold in Barcelona. Each heel is vintage signed in 10/10 black sharpie. Wear is solid, and the rubber of the soles exhibits the powdery degradation common to decades-old sneakers, but our catalog imagery should convey that the aesthetics remain very strong. These are arguably the most significant Air Jordans ever presented at auction, an offering that will identify the most serious collector in the genre when bidding concludes. LOA from MEARS, Authentic. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
