1985-86 George Gervin Game Worn Chicago Bulls Jersey - Final Season & Unique Photo Reference. Every athlete has to someday deal with the harsh reality of a career coming to an end. Those swoops to the hoop get a little slower or the jumper which used to tickle the twine rattles out. The man who was as smooth as ice, George Gervin teamed up with fellow high flier Michael Jordan during His Airness' sophomore campaign. Maybe the Bulls figured some of Gervin's magic would rub off on the youngster out of Chapel Hill. In actuality, Jordan was anything but pleased when the future Hall of Famer was added. "I have no comment on the trade," a perturbed Jordan said. "Just say I am unhappy."

The Gervin Experiment lasted a year and the results were pretty good. The lanky forward averaged a respectable 16.6 points a contest and did reach into the Fountain of Youth when he notched a season-high forty-five points against the Dallas Mavericks. This "Rawlings size 44" road jersey was worn during Gervin's one year in the Windy City. There is evidence of a number change on front from "22" to "8". Previously, Rod Higgins wore the number and was actually in the trade which brought Gervin to the Windy City. Usually a number change is frowned upon but we offer this nugget of information. Previously, the mate to this road jersey, the home version, sold for $9600 in auction. The white jersey had the same number change. We are including an on-line photo for reference. Our guess is since the trade was made in late October of 1985 there was little time for the Bulls to get Gervin fitted for a jersey. They simply grabbed what was available and made a modification.

Each of the identifiers is heat pressed and in heavy two-color plasticized material. "Bulls 8" is featured on front and an outline of where the former number stood is still visible. "Gervin 8" occupies the reverse. A lone Rawlings size tag is sewn in the tail. White/black/red/black/white piping surrounds the neck and shoulder inserts. The white portion of the neck and shoulder trim has turned a very light shade of red from being washed continuously throughout the season. Overall, a quality jersey from Gervin's final NBA stanza.
