"In terms of players all-time, Kareem is still the number one guy. He's the guy you gotta start your franchise with."

    --Julius Erving

1981-86 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Game Worn Los Angeles Lakers Jersey, MEARS A10. Michael Jordan may top the ballots of most casual fans of the game, but among those who have participated in the sport at the highest level, it is the man who once wore the presented road purple jersey that wins the election. If we turn to stat lines to break the tie, it's a landslide for Kareem, who earned a Rookie of the Year award, six NBA Championships, six NBA MVP's and nineteen All-Star nods en route to the all-time scoring record. Not even Air Jordan can compete with that brand of dominance. Nobody can.

Now, over a quarter century after Abdul-Jabbar's retirement from the NBA, he remains one of the sport's most recognizable figures, a begoggled giant who rose to prominence with the skyhook he'd cribbed from George Mikan as a grade schooler, explaining that it was "the only shot I could use that didn't get smashed back in my face." But his peerless production between the painted lines tells only part of the Abdul-Jabbar story, with his role as a philanthropist and warrior for social justice placing the Hall of Fame center in an elite brotherhood with the likes of Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente.

As such, any garment from this durable legend carries enormous historical relevance, and here we present one of the finest known examples of his most recognizable style. Earning the highest possible assessment from leading uniform authenticators MEARS, the classic representation exhibits solid game use from a date range that includes two of Kareem's half dozen Championships. It is the "Tiernan" label at lower front exterior tail that assigns this vintage.

Front and back of the jersey bear the double-threes retired by every team, collegiate and pro, that Abdul-Jabbar ever represented. "Lakers" spans the upper chest in the same white and yellow tackle twill, with the legend's surname arching gracefully across rear shoulders. All identifiers show the puckering common to sweaty wear. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
