Description

1980-81 Mike Woodson Game Worn New York Knicks Jersey & Marvin Webster Trunks with Equipment Manager Provenance.

UPDATE: Please note that Mike Saunders is incorrectly identified as the Knicks' equipment manager-he was actually the trainer.

A second team All-American at Indiana and the twelfth overall pick of the 1980 NBA Draft, Mike Woodson scored over 10,000 points in his NBA career. Later, as an assistant coach with the Pistons, he won an NBA title in 2004.

Woodson's complete rookie road jersey appears in the form of the Knicks eclectic four-year style. The jersey displays "44" over "New York" on the front and "Woodson" arched over "44" on the back, all sewn on to the blue mesh in maroon and white tackle twill. Maroon and white trim adorns the collar and arm openings with three tags in the tail for size ("44"), the local distributor ("Gerry Cosby"), and manufacturer/exclusivity (Medalist Sand-Knit").

This lot also includes matching shorts worn by center Marvin "The Human Eraser" Webster during the 1979-83 period. The blue mesh reveals "40" and "NY," all sewn-on the front in maroon on white tackle twill, plus maroon/white trim and all the proper tags. Both pieces show fine wear.

The jersey was obtained directly from Mike Saunders who was the New York Knicks equipment manager from 1978-2005. LOA from former New York Knicks equipment manager Mike Saunders. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
