1979-80 Earl Monroe Game Worn New York Knicks Jersey, MEARS A8. Known for their traditional colors, the New York Knicks decided it was time for a change in 1979. For the first time in franchise history, blue and orange weren't the colors adopted at Madison Square Garden. Rather, the Knickerbockers donned midnight navy and maroon. This lasted five years before the franchise regained its senses and went back to a more familiar scheme. Given the style was short-lived, it has left a severe dearth for the funky style used from 1979-83. Worn by the man who epitomized tough, Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, is this "Medalist Sand Knit [size] 42" home jersey. Monroe wore this during his final NBA season. The mesh garment has "15 Knicks" exposed on front and "Monroe 15" on the reverse. Consistent puckering and noticeable fraying is equally distributed on the identifiers. MEARS has graded the jersey MEARS A 8 with two points deducted for light use. Blue and burgundy trim surrounds the V-neck front and shoulder inserts. Two softened labels appear in the tail: "Gerry Cosby" and "Medalist Sand Knit." Minor staining appears on the inner tail. While not the traditional colors associated with the Top 50 NBA great, this represents a coveted style honoring one of New York's finest ballers. LOA from MEARS, A8. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
