1976-79 Earl Monroe Game Worn New York Knicks Jersey Photo Matched to 1979 vs. the Celtics! Earl Monroe's first and greatest moniker was not "The Pearl" -- it was "Black Jesus." He earned that nickname during his early years on the schoolyards of Philly, at Winston Salem, and in the famed Baker and Rucker summer leagues, where he was executing moves never before seen on hardwood or asphalt. Monroe's calling cards were not ones of speed or aerial acrobatics but rather earth bound slight-of-hand and spins.

After four glorious seasons in Baltimore, where the Bullets battled the Knicks for supremacy in the east and Monroe faced-off against his arch-rival Frazier for the mantle of greatest guard, the unthinkable happened -- Earl Monroe became a New York Knick. Teaming with his former nemesis, the two formed one of the league's most iconic backcourts which led New York to the 1973 NBA title.

Blue mesh roadster sports "New York 15" across the chest and "Monroe 15" on the verso, all sewn-on in orange and white tackle twill. Orange and white trim adorns the collar and arm openings two Medalist Sand-Knit labels in the tail denote size ("42") and exclusivity.

The greatest attribute of this exemplar is undoubtedly its season(s) long wear, exemplified by soft, frayed, puckered identifiers; wash wear to the fabric and tags; and bleeding of the dark blue into the white trim which has given the jersey a light blue tint.

Resolution Photomatching was able to make a conclusive photomatch to an undated in-game image versus the Boston Celtics, which is captioned as having been taken in 1979.

This is surely of the the finest Monroe gamers extant and the best Monroe exemplar we have ever offered. LOA from Resolution Photomatching (426916). LOA from Heritage Auctions.
