1975-76 David Thompson ABA Game Worn Shooting Shirt. There are so many things to love about this scarce "pre-gamer" that it's tough to know where to begin. The obvious initial appeal is the shirt's previous ownership by the 1996 Hall of Fame inductee, and, furthermore, the fact that it was issued to "Skywalker" during his professional rookie season after claiming the USBWA College Player of the Year, the Adolph Rupp Trophy and the Naismith College Player of the year in 1975. Thompson had been the number one draft pick of both the NBA and the ABA, and many were shocked that he chose the latter. Thompson later explained that, when he met with the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, the organization had seemed less than enthusiastic about him, even choosing McDonald's as the restaurant for their first meeting.

So the Denver Nuggets won the prize, issuing this marvelous one-year style shooting shirt to the NC State superstar for what would prove to be the final season of the ABA's existence. The classic and charming "Maxie the Miner" logo patch is affixed over the heart of this blue knit pullover, with "Thompson 33" applied to verso in white tackle twill. Proper "Wilson [size] 46" label appears at interior collar, with sweat-faded ink on a flap tag below denoting tailoring alteration of "3" X Length." Solid wear is evident throughout. A rookie Hall of Fame uniform piece from the final season of the ABA. Yes, we'd agree--that's pretty special. LOA from Lou Lampson.
