1974-75 Spirits of St. Louis ABA Warm-up Shooting Shirt & Pants. What had begun as a thorn in the side of the entrenched National Basketball Association became, in many ways, its salvation, as the ABA brought its popular, high-flying flash along with it as it was absorbed in the 1976 merger. We see evidence of the fun-loving character of the defunct league in this sharp ensemble, worn during its final two years.

Silver outlining surrounds the intricate collar of the shooting shirt, sleeve ends and tail to offset the blazing orange knit body. The reverse announces "Spirits of St. Louis" above an image of a plane in two-color formation and built-in silver sparkle cloth material. The inner button path has a "Rawlings [size] 40" label sewn in and "15" written in vintage black marker. James Foster was rostered on the team in 1974-75 and donned those digits. Nobody wore that number during the team's final season.

The matching pants hold a "Rawlings [size] 32" tag and added length designator at interior waistband. A number appears to be blackened out, and "40" appears below the added length tag. A 1974-75 yearbook, press stat sheets and program from the team's first exhibition game will attend. Players are wearing the same style of warmup jacket on the program's cover. We searched our auction archives and have found only one other Spirits of St. Louis warmup jacket. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
