1972-75 World B. Free Game Worn Guilford College Quakers Warmup Jacket with Family Provenance. He was born Lloyd Free, before legally changing his name to "World B. Free" because he believed he was more than All NBA -- he was in fact "All World." This outrageous claim did hold some truth, as Free's remarkable 30.2 points per game for the Diego Clippers in 1979-80 will attest.Back in simpler times, during his collegiate days with the Guilford College Quakers and his early NBA years with the Philadelphia 76ers, Free was known as "The Prince of Mid-Air," a moniker acquired on the strength of his incredible leaping ability and hangtime.
While at Guilford, he won a NAIA national title, NAIA tournament MVP, and NAIA Player of the Year Award. When he retired from the NBA in 1988, he was the sixth leading scorer amongst guards in NBA history.
The Prince's collegiate warmup jacket is presented here. Home white, long sleeve, snap-front sports red and black trim adorning the ribbed collar/sleeve cuffs and mid-sleeves. "Guilford" is beautifully arched on the verso, in red on black tackle twill, while the collar tagging has all but faded, except for a "Powers 3" L-B" flap tag. Exhibits solid multi-season wear.
There are no player identifiers present on the jacket, which is common at the university level due to the high turnover and limited budgets. The link to Free comes in the letter of provenance from his ex-wife, Sandra Free, which attests that the jacket was worn at one time by her former Prince. Letter of provenance from Sandra Free.
