1970-71 Charlie Scott Game Worn Virginia Squires Rookie of the Year Jersey. A member of the 1968 Olympics Gold Medal basketball team, Scott was the first black scholarship athlete at the University of North Carolina, where he twice led the Tar Heels to the Final Four. Though he was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1970, he opted to test his skills in the ABA instead, where he was issued this important home white jersey upon joining the first Virginia Squires team (which had been the Washington Caps prior to relocation).

Scott flourished in the professional game, averaging over twenty-seven points a game en route to the ABA Rookie of the Year Award. He'd lead the Squires to a first place Eastern Division finish with a record of fifty-five and twenty-nine, though the season would end with a loss to the Kentucky Colonels in the Division finals.

The jersey exhibits marvelous game wear, with "Squires 33" applied to chest in red and blue tackle twill, those digits repeated on verso beneath a distinctive "C. Scott" rear nameplate. Lower rear interior tail holds the "Pearson Sporting Goods" manufacturer's label and an embroidered swatch reporting, "42L-33-70." Scattered light staining is not distracting, as our catalog and online imagery should confirm. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
