    Description

1968-70 "Pistol Pete" Maravich Game Worn LSU Tigers Jersey, MEARS A10.

UPDATE: Further research by the experts at MEARS has resulted in a narrowing of the potential date range of this jersey to Maravich's 1968-69 junior and 1969-70 senior seasons, and their letter of authenticity will be updated to reflect these findings. Maravich was named National Player of the Year and led the NCAA in scoring during each of these seasons, completing his collegiate career records for points (3,667), field goals (1,387) and free throws (893) in the latter.

Many years after Pistol Pete's collegiate career was over, former LSU head basketball coach Dale Brown charted every college game in which Maravich played, and every basket he had sunk. Calculating the three-point line at nineteen feet nine inches from the rim, a line that did not exist during Maravich's playing days, Brown was able to ascertain that the young superstar would have averaged thirteen three-pointers per game, which would have resulted in a career average of fifty-seven points per contest. As it currently stands, Maravich's 44.2 points per game and 3,667 total points remain the NCAA Division I records, despite the fact that the rules of the day prohibited the Pistol from playing varsity ball as a freshman.

The presented treasure is practically a religious artifact to the multitudes of fans that idolized Maravich and his distinctive, dynamic style. The experts at MEARS rave over the historic garment, supplying its highest rating based upon the heavy game wear and absence of any alterations or unsightly blemishes. The purple cotton durene blend shell announces "LSU 23" on the chest in yellow and white tackle twill that is supple to the touch from sweaty wear and laundering. The digits are repeated in larger format on verso. Lower left front tail holds the proper "Sand-Knit Size 40" label beneath a secondary tag from "Holmes Sporting Goods" a local Louisiana distributor. An absolutely perfect specimen, earning every point of its grade. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
