1967-68 Kentucky Colonels Game Worn Shooting Shirt with Later Artis Gilmore Attribution. Seminal artifact dates to the inaugural season of the American Basketball Association, a pre-game warm-up that could be characterized as the earliest Colonels garment known. This kelly green format was abandoned the next season but then revisited during the preseason of 1971-72, when it was purported to have been worn by rookie and future Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore. We find his name written on ancient tape applied to interior rear tail. The pullover style announces "Kentucky" across the chest in white and black tackle twill, with nameplate missing on reverse, but snaps still in place. Satin pants match in format but are clearly too short to have been Gilmore's. "Rawlings" manufacturer's labeling reports size "48" and "36" in the shirt and pants respectively. Letter of provenance from Kentucky Colonels head trainer. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
