1965-66 Wilt Chamberlain Game Worn Philadelphia 76'ers Game Worn Shorts. Brilliant but complicated, Chamberlain could be at times the most beloved and most reviled figure on the professional hardcourt, the owner of a staggering quantity of all-time NBA records for scoring and rebounding, and several more for action behind a closed bedroom door. Presented is a pair of shorts worn by Chamberlain during his first full season with the Philadelphia 76'ers, a return to the city where he began his NBA career after wearing out his welcome as a member of the San Francisco Warriors.

The superstar center furthered his reputation as a difficult teammate back in Philly, refusing to live in the city and instead commuting from New York and altering the entire team's practice schedule to accomodate. But Chamberlain's brilliance was calculated to be worth the internal strife, as he earned his second MVP Award while leading the NBA in scoring (33.5 points per game) and rebounds (24.6 per game). Presented is an exciting relic of that historic campaign, worn by The Stilt as he led his new team to the playoffs.

The magnificent, patriotic style features tackle twill "76" ringed by thirteen white stars at each hip on the blue satin body of the garment. Red, white and blue ring the drawstring waistband. We find unusual hip padding at the interior, the left bearing "Pearson [size] 36" manufacturer's labeling and an embroidered swatch announcing "13-36 HR 65," denoting jersey number, waist size, increased/high rise and year respectively.

Solid wear is evident throughout. Included is a letter of provenance detailing the post-Chamberlain history of the shorts, a gift to a participant in a Villanova University basketball camp by famed coach George Raveling in the summer of 1966. Letter of provenance from early owner. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
