"Big O" three-peats as UPI College Player of the Year!

1959-60 Oscar Robertson Game Worn University of Cincinnati Bearcats Jersey--Two Photo Matches and Robertson Letter! It's one of the most significant college basketball jerseys ever presented at auction, certainly the finest Heritage has had the privilege to offer since John Wooden's outrageous early 1930's Purdue gamer commanded $264,000 back in May 2018. Only the great Pete Maravich, who would average a massive 44.2 points per game at LSU, stands taller than Robertson at 33.8 in the NCAA record books. Each man has properly seen his number lifted to the rafters of his collegiate hardcourt home.

But while the LSU Tigers had made it as far as the Final Four prior to the arrival of Maravich in Baton Rouge, Pistol Pete himself never played in the NCAA tournament. By contrast, the Cincinnati Bearcats made their bracket debut during Robertson's first varsity season in 1958, cruising all the way to the Sweet Sixteen. In 1959 and in 1960--the senior season from which this remarkable garment derives--Robertson led the team all the way to the Final Four. He'd graduate with a personal record of 79-9 during his three Bearcats seasons before delivering eleven more years of brilliance to Cincinnati basketball fans with the Royals of the NBA.

The classic white durene gamer utilizes a black on red color theme for the city name on chest and piping at neck and arm holes, with number "12" applied in black to front and back. Lower front tail holds "MacGregor Size 44" label and washing instructions tag. Fine game wear is evident.

Provenance is as ironclad as possible, the documentation coming in the form of a signed letter from Robertson himself and MeiGray paperwork noting two photo matches (visible at our online listing): Bearcats over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on December 26, 1959, and Bearcats over the Iowa Hawkeyes four days later, each game in the ECAC Holiday Festival Championship at Madison Square Garden. LOA from MeiGray with two photo matches (AP #591227041 & #591230046). Letter of provenance from Oscar Robertson. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
