1971-74 Larry Bird Springs Valley High School Original Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1 - Extremely Early Example! It's no secret that Larry Bird used basketball as an escape from his rough childhood. Raised in French Lick, Indiana, his mother worked two jobs to support Larry and his five siblings, while his father Joe committed suicide after his parents divorced.

Bird would do anything to block out the negativity in his life, and he spent countless hours wearing out sneakers and a ratty old basketball while shooting on a hoop that was one step above a peach basket in quality. His hard work paid off in high school, where he would star for Springs Valley, while averaging 31 points, 21 rebounds and four assists as a senior, he finished his high school career as the school's all-time leading scorer.

Offered here is the earliest photo of Larry Joe Bird that we've encountered, and it is a fantastic action shot of the Springs Valley star dunking a basketball. Measuring at 8x10", it displays solid condition with the exception of some paper loss at the top-right hand portion. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.
