1940's St. John's, Kentucky, Utah & Other College Basketball Photographs Lot of 300+. The 1940's were a historic and fun time to be playing basketball in the NCAA. With the war years stalling professional basketball for a period, college basketball had the opportunity to take center stage. This massive collection of college basketball original photographs mostly comes from the late 1940's, by which time Kenny Sailors had already invented the jump shot and made it en vogue. The collection consists largely of photos from St. John's, Utah, Kentucky, and a few other schools, as well as All-Stars and championship team shots.

Most of the photos measure approximately 5x7" with a very few 8x10" or smaller sized photos. Originally, this was apparently meant to be a scrapbook detailing how to take proper basketball photographs for newspapers, etc. A few pages of the original scrapbook, including instructions and sample "best shots," are included, while most of the photos have been removed from the scrapbooks and often have glue remnants on the verso.

For the college basketball aficionado, this group offers a treasure trove of incredible photographic history of the game, and there are likely to be many hidden gems of top notch players included. Just a couple of the identified stars include Walt Dropo, who later went on to play Major League Baseball, Coach Hank Iba, and numerous shots of Hall of Famer Dick McGuire and NBA star Harry Boykoff. Four of the photos are signed, including a group shot that includes the late Boykoff.
