    Description

Earliest Known James Naismith Autograph, 1885. Small hardcover volume entitled "The Constitution and Procedure of the Presbyterian Church in Canada" offers a 10/10 black ink inscription on the blank opening page. It reads, "1885, Oct. 19th, Montreal, M. J. MacLeod, J. Naismith." One must assume that MacLeod was the twenty-three year old Naismith's professor. This rare keepsake from Naismith's theology schooling shows expected wear, though the important autograph remains unaffected. The oldest signature we've ever encountered from the inventor of the sport of basketball. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
