Description
2009 Los Angeles Lakers NBA Championship Ring Presented to Center DJ Mbenga. With five NBA Championships between the years of 2000 and 2010, the Los Angeles Lakers find no competition for stature as the greatest dynasty in the past two decades of professional basketball. Presented here is the glorious symbol of that dynasty's fourth trip to the mountain top, and the fifteenth in the franchise's illustrious history. Not an expense was spared nor a corner cut when crafting the award, a staggeringly opulent ring with enough flash to make a major label rapper blush. Stamped and tested at fifteen karat gold, the ring boasts 148 round brilliant-cut diamonds with a total carat weight of 2.75, and the ring a gross weight of seventy-five grams (75 g.).This ring was issued to seven-foot Congolese center DJ Mbenga, and it entered the hobby through his teammate Erick Dampier. A signed letter from Dampier tells us, "I accepted this ring as collateral on a personal loan to former teammate DJ Mbenga. After an agreed upon amount of time had passed without loan repayment, the ring was transferred into my ownership as per our agreement. To my knowledge, this was the one and only ring DJ received for winning the 2009 NBA Championship."
The Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy appears in miniature on the ring face along with the "Lakers" logo, set against a background of wall-to-wall diamonds. "2009 World Champions" balances at the perimeter in raised text. The left shank features an image of the LA skyline, the year "09" and the regular season record of "65-17." Left shank identifies Mbenga by name, number and even facially, the first Championship ring we've ever encountered to picture its recipient. The team's regular season record of 65-17 completes the design. The right shank lists the results of each Playoff series, with a roman numeral "XV" keeping count of franchise Championships. The band measures to a size thirteen (13), and is stamped "JBH-010, 15k" inside. Fine condition. Letter of provenance from Erick Dampier. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
