1992 Olympic Games Larry Bird Game Worn & Signed USA Basketball Dream Team Sneakers - Fischer Collection.
Red Auerbach once said that, if he were starting a team and could choose any player in history, Bird would be the first player he would choose. And Red had seen everyone.

If there were a pyramid for basketball IQ, Larry Bird would probably be at the top. Even amongst the greatest who ever played the game, Bird will always be in a special class. Although the complete player, if you had to focus on one aspect of his game it would be his passing ability. And this is where his true greatness lies. For so many players, passing the ball means simply giving the ball to a teammate. For Bird, it was about giving the ball to the right player, at the right time, in the right spot, and in a position where they were capable of scoring. He was also a master of the pass before the pass which leads to a basket. See, Larry was always ahead of everyone. Coach Bill Fitch once called him "the fastest player in the league", and he wasn't referring to his foot speed. It's one thing to make yourself great but it's a whole other thing to make your teammates great. Larry understood that's how basketball games were won. And Larry was all about winning basketball games.

For sale here are Larry Legend's game worn Dream Team sneakers. They are white "Cons" with his Olympic number "7" embroidered on outer ankles in blue with red trim. Each shoe is signed on the arch side in black sharpie. Right shoe bears the inscription, "To Dave." No size is listed and Larry's custom insoles have been removed. The pair shows light game wear.

The 1992 Olympic Games were Larry Bird's swan song as a professional basketball player. He would never play competitively again. The last steps Larry Bird ever took on a basketball court may very well have been taken with these shoes. Letter of provenance from David A. Fischer, MD. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The David A. Fischer, MD Dream Team I Collection

Game worn sneakers, Championship ring, team signed basketballs provide inside look at greatest sports team ever assembled

By the time the USA Basketball Olympic committee came calling, David A. Fischer, MD had already enjoyed a long and distinguished career at the highest levels of American sports, having served as team physician to the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL and Timberwolves of the NBA for over a quarter century. But between the start of the qualifying "Tournament of the Americas" in mid-June 1992 through the final game of the Barcelona Olympics in mid-August, Fischer found himself linked to a team unequalled in the annals of athletic history.

Now, nearly twenty-four years after legends from Michael Jordan to Magic Johnson to Larry Bird took the top step of the podium to receive their Gold Medals, Dr. Fischer releases the treasures of his service to the bidding audience of our May Catalog Auction

"We have enjoyed the items and memories," said Fischer. "We will always have the memories and friendships. However, we now think it time to allow other basketball fans and collectors the opportunity to share in these as well."

Most notable among the contents of the Fischer Collection is a nearly full roster of game worn sneakers, many autographed with grateful messages from the legendary figures the doctor treated. Autograph collectors will be drawn to a pair of team signed basketballs, each so scarce that only team members and staff had access. A variety of Championship awards are likewise on offer, including a Gold Medal for the "Tournament of the Americas" and a ring representing the Gold Medal achievement at Barcelona.
