Includes paperwork from original sale in August 1991 charity auction!

1991 Michael Jordan NBA Finals Game Worn & Signed Sneakers, MEARS Authentic.

UPDATE: This lot will be accompanied with an LOA from PSA/DNA. They note that the autograph on the right shoe has been traced at the letter "M," however, it is our opinion that the stray lines much more strongly suggest difficulty with the writing utensil upon signing than any post-signature enhancement. We advise that interested bidders take the time to view our high-resolution imagery of the autograph and then make their own determination.

A second MVP Award this season for the sport's greatest name, who averaged thirty-one and a half points per game while leading his Chicago Bulls to their first finish at the top of the division in sixteen years, notching a franchise-record sixty-one victories in the process. The magic continued through the playoffs, with the Bulls vanquishing the Los Angeles Lakers in five games to claim the first NBA Championship in franchise history. Jordan was named the NBA Finals MVP in a unanimous decision.

Presented is a pair of Air Jordan VI sneakers worn by their namesake as he cut the ribbon on the glorious Bulls dynasty over which he presided. While we cannot be certain if the sneakers were worn for just a single game or for all of them, the shoes bear ironclad provenance assigning them to Finals action in the form of two signed letters from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the charity that benefited from their sale just months after the Windy City's first taste of hardcourt glory.

The sneakers exhibit solid game action, most evident in the sweaty wear of the interiors, and we must report that the soles are restored to combat the common complication of rubber degradation so often seen in decades-old basketball shoes. Each leather upper is autographed at exterior ankle in 9/10 silver paint pen, and it is important to stress that these are applied in Jordan's period style, as confirmed by the 1991 letters of provenance identifying the sneakers as autographed.

Certainly any Jordan gamers carry tremendous collecting intrigue, but this pair's derivation from the Finals of his first NBA Championship season, with their contemporaneous autographs and solid charity provenance, sets this offering apart. They rank with the most significant Jordan gear ever to see the hobby's auction block. LOA from MEARS, Authentic. 1991 charity auction paperwork. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).
