1990-91 Michael Jordan Game Worn Signed Shoe and Wristband. James Shorters Pistons Ball Boy Collection

Ball boys are one of the few outsiders allowed in basketball's most inner sanctum. James Shorter served as a ball boy and helped in the capacity of visiting locker room attendant for the Detroit Pistons from 1988-93. He enjoyed a bird's eye view of the Bad Boy teams which won back-to-back NBA titles. The likes of Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Scottie Pippen, Joe Dumars and Michael Cooper were just some of the men who the youngster called friend during his association with the organization. Heritage Auctions has the honor of offering some of Shorter's personal treasures, given to him by NBA stars of the 1980's.

From the collection of former Detroit Pistons ball boy James Shorters, here we present an original Air Jordan V sneaker he obtained straight from His Airness after a game at the Palace of Auburn Hills in the early 1990's. Unfortunately Jordan promised one of the shoes to one of the other ball boys, but MJ made up for it by also giving Shorters his game-worn wristband.

The "[size] 13" shoe admittedly exhibits heavy deterioration on the bottom, which is typical for MJ shoes that had the standard Nike air pocket, but the leather portion still displays superbly (medium wear and scuffing). Signed by Jordan in faded black sharpie near the ankle, this is one of few legitimate Jordan V gamers ever to hit the auction block. Letter of provenance from former Pistons ball boy. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (autograph).
